Education globally is no doubt, the springboard for human and national developments. Over the years its mode of transmission has varied from seemingly primitive to modern and technologically based forms. The last century has witnessed educational broadcasting, a new dimension in the spread of education through the radio and television. This is a means of mass education that is witnessing a huge harvest. Educational broadcasting, in its unique manner of contributing to educate its audience, has various modes such as formal, informal, non-formal and mobilization. Educational broadcasting targets mainly children, educationally disadvantaged groups, the minority and illiterate adults in search of education. Educational broadcasting via the television creates a general desire for knowledge, aids and supplements teachers’ work, creates awareness of acceptable life goals and values, provides extra opportunity of learning for people especially the down trodden, promotes individualized learning, offers equal access to educational opportunities, checks school population explosion and explains national educational policies to people who might benefit from them. |
