Author(s): Maurice A. ONYIRIUKA & Uchenna F. Orji
Abstract: The study explored propaganda use in development communication presentations. It was anchored on development media and situation theories. The study adopted survey research method. A census study of 127 journalists was drawn from Imo State. The obtained data were analyzed using simple percentages and 5.point likert scale in tables. Findings revealed that propaganda is one of the persuasive communication strategies used by journalists in Imo State, and it is used to a large extent. It also showed that there is a significant relationship between propaganda and stories about development. The study, therefore, recommended that journalists should uphold professional journalistic ethics rather than succumbing to adverse influence that water down the quality of information required for sustainable social-economic development. Also there is need for journalists to use propaganda in a prudent manner by giving accurate, fair and truthful reportage of development related programmes.
