Title: Appraisal of the Watchdog Role of the Media During the 2019 Electioneering Campaigns in Enugu State, Nigeria

Abstract: This study evaluated the watchdog role of the media during the 2019 electioneering campaigns in Enugu State Nigeria. Using survey, the researcher employed purposive sampling technique. From a population of 1,944,016 registered voters, a sample size of 400 was drawn using Taro Yamane formula. Findings revealed that the core role of the media during elections is to inform the electorate adequately. Also, it was found that the radio is a viable tool for information dissemination during the electioneering campaigns. The paper recommends amongst others that the media should follow very strictly the principles of journalism which is anchored on honesty and objectivity especially during electioneering campaigns.
