Title: Appraising Technology Start-ups in Nigerian National Development
Author(s): Jimme G. Matyek
Abstract: This paper appraised the role technology start-ups plays in the overall development of Nigeria. Nigeria has a vibrant Digital Culture and this is the springboard for many technology start-ups, innovation hubs or incubators springing up in the Nigerian ecosystem. The problem statement is the fact that Nigeria relies heavily on foreign technology rather than indigenous technology, especially Information Technology. The quantitative methodology and online survey research design were used for the study. The foremost finding of the study showed that technology start-ups contribute to Nigeria’s development in the area of job creation. This study recommends that more participation and support from the government and the private sector is needed, especially in the area of seed funding for technology start-ups to optimally contribute to Nigeria’s development in other sectors like software and applications development to address the myriad of problems mitigating growth and development in Nigeria.
