Author(s): Ngozi Comfort OMOJUNIKANBI, Godwin OKON & Obiageli OHIAGU
Abstract: The study examined the communication channels used by NDDC and sources of awareness of NDDC plans in the region by select communities. Survey research design was used while questionnaireand interview was used as the instrument of data collection. Findings revealed that the one of the reasons Niger Delta residents are not benefitting from the commissions plans is ineffective communication of disseminating their programmes. It was discovered that there is poor interpersonal communication or relationship between the agency and the Niger Delta region as findings revealed that the agency mostly used the mass media and social media to disseminate their information to the region. It is therefore recommended that the agency should not embrace only the mass media and social media, but should also include interpersonal communication, workshops and seminars. When this is done, it is believed that NDDC’s intervention programmes in the region will bring about a sustainable growth and development in the region, Nigeria generally and the world at large.
