Title: Effectiveness of Internal Communication in Management of Employee Relations in Bayero University, Kano

Abstract: The study examines the use of internal communication as represented by bulletins, memos, newsletters etc in fostering good, positive and harmonious relationship between management and employees of Bayero University, Kano. The study is guided by the belief that internal communication being a branch of other communication divisions is employed worldwide and is healthy and positively effective in ensuring the attainment of organizational goals and objectives. Using survey and In-depth Interviewing, some thirty (30) employees each from four (4) faculties of the university totaling 120 were selected using simple random sampling. Some key staff of the Public Affairs Directorate of Bayero University, Kano were interviewed to establish the extent to which and how the use of internal communication by the university ensure a better relationship and performance and the attainment of organizational goals. The media socialization and social exchange theories were used as theoretical framework. The findings of the study were that communication is mostly top-down, memos, bulletins, meetings; letters were mostly used as internal communication methods. Internal communication was found to be effective in building harmonious relationship. The study recommends
