Entrepreneurship education has emerged as a critical lever for driving sustainable
development in developing nations, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Nigeria,
where youth unemployment and socioeconomic inequality pose persistent
challenges, equipping young people with entrepreneurial skills and knowledge has
become an urgent national imperative. This paper examines the intersection of
entrepreneurship education, communication strategies, and sustainable
development in the Nigerian context. The study is anchored on the Diffusion of
Innovations Theory, which provides a robust framework for understanding how
entrepreneurial knowledge and practices spread across social systems. Drawing on
a desktop research methodology, the study explores how entrepreneurship
education contributes to economic empowerment, social inclusion, and
environmental consciousness, while analysing the communication mechanisms
through which this education is promoted and delivered. The findings reveal that strategic communication serves as a vital conduit for disseminating
entrepreneurship education, shaping attitudes, and mobilising participation among
students and youth. Communication channels including social media, community
radio, and peer networks play significant roles in amplifying the reach and impact of
entrepreneurship programmes. The paper concluded that strengthening
communication strategies in entrepreneurship education delivery is essential for
achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality
Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 10 (Reduced
Inequalities). The study recommended that the government and educational
institutions should strengthen practical entrepreneurship education to develop skills
for innovation, self-reliance and sustainable enterprise creation and government
agencies and institutions should use social media, community radio, peer networks
and interpersonal communication to improve youths' awareness and participation in
entrepreneurship education. |
