The study titled”Influence of condom use television campaigns on commercial bus drivers” was carried out in Onitsha, the commercial centre of Anambra State. The article aimed at finding out the level of exposure to condom use campaigns by commercial bus drivers, ascertaining the major media channels through which the drivers access campaigns regularly, and assessing the direction of influence of the campaigns on commercial bus drivers. Two theories were used to provide anchor for the study, namely: the agenda setting theory and the theory of reasoned action. The study adopted the survey research method and utilised the questionnaire as data gathering instrument. The population of the study was 485 registered members of the union of driver’s welfare of Anambra State, Onitsha Chapter; 219 sample size was adopted using Taro Yamane’s formula. The article used purposive sampling technique and adopted frequency tables and simple percentage method in data analysis. Findings of the study, among others, show that the level of exposure of the respondents to condom use campaigns was high, that television was the major medium or channel through which respondents access campaigns, and that the direction of influence of the campaigns on commercial bus drivers was positive. The study recommended regular use of the television for condom use and other campaigns, and utilisation of workshops, seminars and conferences to continue to sensitise drivers and other motor park attendants/operators on the need for regular utilisation of the condom. |
