Abstract: |
This study investigated knowledge and application of radio messages on human rights among residents of Abakliki urban of Ebonyi State, Nigeria. The study was anchored on Agenda Setting theory. The study adopted descriptive survey research with questionnaire as instrument for data generation. A sample size of 385 was determined using Australian online Calculator. The findings of the study among others suggest that: the people have significant knowledge of radio human rights messages, there is low level of application of radio human messages among the people, educational status significantly predicts the knowledge and application of radio human rights messages among the residents of Abakaliki urban in Ebonyi State; and that lack of confidence in the impartiality of the Nigeria judicial system is a major factor that significantly inhibits the knowledge and application of radio messages on human right among residents of Abakaliki Urban in Ebonyi State. Consequently, it was recommended that radio stations in Ebonyi State like EBBC and Unity FM should endeavour to adopt phone-in programmes that can enable the public to participate effectively when discussing issues about human rights in Ebonyi State; that radio stations in Ebonyi State should air their messages on human rights on Saturdays at late evening time of 7pm and 9pm when the majority of the people agreed to be their most relaxed moment. |
